Research project on used garage door operators

Research project on used garage door operators

Together with the Marantec Group, we launched the six-month research project “Circular Drives” in Germany in fall 2025. The aim is to return and analyze used garage door operators in line with the principles of the circular economy. The free take-back campaign helps us gain insights into the condition and quality of the drives, regardless of their manufacturer or age.

What is the project about?

We collect used operators before they become electronic waste and examine how materials can be reused or recycled to a high standard. In this way, we are creating the basis for circular product concepts.

Why are we doing this?

We want to develop new approaches for sustainable business models, conserve resources, and reduce our CO₂ emissions. Analyzing the returned devices provides valuable data for the future.

What benefits do our customers and the environment gain?

Our customers benefit from more durable, repairable products and can rely on Hörmann as a sustainable partner. The environment benefits from the reduction of waste, the conservation of valuable resources, and the reduction of CO₂ emissions – a decisive step toward a true circular economy. The dealers involved in the project also benefit: they can conveniently dispose of used operators through Hörmann and do not have to transport them to a disposal facility.
