Natural CO₂ storage and biodiversity

In addition to reducing emissions, we also make targeted investments in natural carbon sinks. As a result, green roofs, bee meadows and pastureland are being created at many of our sites, which not only contribute to climate protection but also promote biodiversity.
An important part of our commitment to sustainability is the active involvement of our employees. Through regular activities – such as information sessions about our bee colonies or community fruit tree planting schemes – we bring nature and species conservation to life and strengthen our shared awareness of ecological interdependencies.
Furthermore, we are committed to protecting biodiversity and support the INSECT RESPECT® initiative, which works to preserve insect habitats.
For example, an additional habitat for insects was created right next to the company’s headquarters in Steinhagen. In a joint, certified planting initiative with INSECT RESPECT® and with the support of a local gardening and landscaping firm, Hörmann employees further enhanced the ecological value of an existing orchard meadow.
Thanks to wild and small shrubs such as aronia, cornelian cherry, elderberry and wild rose, and a variety of flowering seeds, the food supply for insects has been significantly improved. The newly created sand patches, rubble piles and deadwood piles also provide a sheltered home for reptiles, amphibians, hedgehogs and birds. This is how
This has created an ecologically diverse habitat that will be allowed to develop over many years, as well as providing ecological compensation for individual trees that had to be removed elsewhere on the company premises as part of operational developments.
