A sustainable journey
SC electronic manufactures electronic assemblies that are used as the core components of modern electronics in a wide variety of devices. Among other things, they ensure that Hörmann door operators function smoothly. As a sustainability partner within the Hörmann Group, the Herford-based company can look back on an impressive development towards greater climate protection. The strongest sign of this is that, since 2025, SC electronic has been delivering its products to Hörmann in a CO2-neutral manner thanks to numerous reduction measures and the offsetting of remaining emissions. The company has been calculating its corporate carbon footprint since 2019.

Sometimes it takes a look back to see how far you've come. Back in 2012, the company planted 10 fruit trees – an ecological contribution that continues to have an impact today. The next horticultural step on the path to CO₂ reduction was a particularly colorful one: in 2024, a flowering meadow was created to provide food for native insects.
“An important milestone was then the switch to the electricity provider naturstrom,” reports Managing Director Ingo Klassen. “Since then, we have been sourcing electricity from 100 percent renewable energies. In 2024 alone, we were able to save over 60 tons of CO₂ compared to the average German electricity mix.”
Further measures followed:
- Charging points for employees' electric cars and e-bikes
- Switch to energy-saving LED lighting
- Use of motion detectors in production and administration
- Use of wasteheat from production to heat manufacturing areas
SC electronic took the next big step with CO₂-neutral deliveries to Hörmann. This is being achieved through support for certified climate protection projects in cooperation with the British company Green Box Thinking. Together with other companies, SC electronic is participating in the Heqing Solar Cooker project in China, which helps people in rural areas replace coal stoves with solar cookers. Thanks to over 49,000 solar cookers installed, the project saves more than 140,000 tons of CO₂ annually.
We think that's great – thank you, SC electronic!
