Hermann Hörmann
In today's marketplace for building materials, the name Hörmann has become synonymous with residential and industrial doors and operators; because here the Hörmann Group is Europe's largest supplier. This has been achieved through the constant growth over decades of a family business against a backdrop of innovation, quality assurance and close proximity to customers.

Hörmann KG is already being run by the fourth generation, namely by the grandchildren and great grandchildren of the company founder. The personally liable general partners are Thomas J. Hörmann, Martin J. Hörmann as well as Christoph Hörmann.

In his metalworking shop in Bielefeld, August Hörmann (1886 - 1944), also produces steel doors. Following the war, his son, Hermann (1912 - 1994), re-establishes his father's business in Steinhagen virtually from scratch.

In the 50s he gives his company the all-decisive impetus for growth by producing an entirely new kind of up-and-over garage door, the so-called "Berry Door", named after its American inventor.

In the 60s, space-saving, vertically opening sectional doors for garages as well as industrial and commercial buildings initiate a development with a promising future. The company starts to expand beyond the headquarters in Steinhagen. The product range is being constantly extended. Today it also includes fire and multi-purpose doors, folding and sliding doors, entrance doors, gates and window systems as well as electric operators.

Since the 60s, a total of 10 production plants have been built in Germany and Belgium. Over and above this, other companies join the ranks of the Hörmann Group: Schörghuber GmbH, Ampfing (Germany), Seuster KG, Lüdenscheid (Germany), Berner Torantriebe GmbH, Rottenburg (Germany), Dyna Seal B.V., Alkmaar (The Netherlands) as well as Tubauto SAS, Sens, and Garador Holdings Ltd., Yeovil, leading manufacturers of up-and-over garage doors in France and Great Britain. Since 2000 Hörmann doors for residential and commercial applications have been produced in Beijing, China, by the Hörmann Beijing Door Production Co. Ltd. Joining the list in 2002 is Hörmann Inc., USA, manufacturing garage doors and operators for the North American market.
